Couldn't find a proper category for this but I figure the Odd News would suffice. Anyway, just wanted to write this quick review of a time tested ammunition company that ended up failing miserably last week at the range. I saw a box of this ammunition in .380 on sale for less than $20 for a box of 50. Since they were at least $5 cheaper than all the others I decided to grab a box and do my quarterly range session. Out of the 50 I sent down range I experienced over 10 jams and an additional 6 misfires. Now, I have shot 500 rounds through my Bersa .380 using Winchester ammunition and only experienced 1 jam. But these Fiocchi rounds were absolute shit and turned a simple hour of enjoyable shooting into a profanity laced afternoon.
Now, I have shot Fiocchis before but they were shotgun rounds (#4 shot to be exact) and had no problems what-so-ever. But, this was over 20 years ago so who knows how they perform now. Also, before anyone says anything; my guns are cleaned and oiled well after each session at the range. I also take it apart just before I go and oil it again and do a simple functions check too. Both handguns operate flawlessly because any jams I experience are from flawed cartridges. It's definitely not operator error and anyone who dares suggest otherwise earns him/herself my light saber straight up their little brown starfish!
Also, one other unpleasant quality about this ammunition is that I experienced a lot more powder blow-back in my face than any other rounds I've fired before. Even reloads don't fry my face like this. Felt like metal slag after about two clips worth. Definitely a brand I will never buy again no matter how good the sale price is. Winchester target rounds have never failed me no matter where I buy them from. If any of you use Fiocchis for your handguns I'd like to know what your experience has been. If you haven't I would advise you to stay clear from them unless you want to risk enjoying the same ordeal.
